Erin Murphy, professor of English at Penn State Altoona, has published two new poems in the international journal The Ilanot Review. Murphy’s poems “In Case of Emergency” and “Conceived” are included in a themed issue on parents.
Students in Penn State Altoona’s Criminal Justice Organization took part in the 2023 Federal Mock Sentencing Exercise at the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania in Johnstown on Oct. 24.
Students in Penn State Altoona's communication program produced a documentary that will air at noon on Nov. 4 on WPSU-TV. “The History of the Pennsylvania Railroad in Altoona” explores the origins of the industry in central Pennsylvania and explains how the railroad in the Altoona area served as a major contributing factor to the nation’s industrial, commercial and cultural development.
When Penn State leaders made the decision to shift to remote learning for summer 2020 classes, Penn State instruction leaders realized they needed to rethink strategies for student support. Fortunately, an already-successful Penn State University Libraries-based technology training initiative, Tech Academy, had been introducing basic technology tools and skills to incoming students since 2017, and was ready to be transformed for online training needs.
Libraries have always been important to Mary O’Neill Marsh, who grew up in State College as an avid reader. As a result, she has established Penn State University Libraries’ Mary O’Neill Marsh Tech Academy Endowment, which funds University Libraries initiatives and programs to develop students’ digital literacy skills.

Penn State Altoona will host an Education Abroad Fair on Oct. 26. The fair provides an overview of study abroad programs available through Penn State and an opportunity to talk to advisers and partner providers.
Recently tenured and promoted Penn State faculty across the University were honored Oct. 2 through Penn State’s Promotion and Tenure Recognition Program, now in its 21st year, during a private event held in the Paterno Family Humanities Reading Room on the second floor of Pattee Library at the University Park campus.
After wrapping up his career with the United States Navy, Aaron Kuhn, a second-year animal science student in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences who currently studies at Penn State Altoona, returned home to Hollidaysburg to revive his family farm.
